South Korean actor Kim Sae-ron was found dead at her Seoul residence on Sunday, nearly two years after stepping away from the public eye following a drunk driving conviction. She was 24.
According to police, a friend discovered Kim’s body. Authorities found no signs of foul play and are investigating the circumstances surrounding her death, a police official told CNN.
Kim began her acting career as a child and rose to prominence with her role as an abandoned girl in the 2009 film A Brand New Life, which earned her recognition at the Cannes Film Festival.
She went on to star in notable films such as the 2010 action hit The Man from Nowhere, the 2012 mystery thriller The Neighbors, and the 2014 drama A Girl at My Door, alongside several other film and television roles.
However, Kim’s career faltered after an April 2023 court ruling in Seoul found her guilty of driving under the influence. The conviction stemmed from a 2022 car crash in the South Korean capital. She avoided jail time but was fined approximately $14,000.
