Just hours before the Grammys, Kanye West returned to social media, making waves by briefly following only Taylor Swift’s Instagram account. Later, he switched gears and followed just his wife, Bianca Censori, whom he attended the Grammys with that evening.
West left the venue before Swift even arrived, dressed in her Travis Kelce-inspired Chiefs red minidress. While he made it to the red carpet ahead of her, who is heavily nominated this year for The Tortured Poets Department, reports on the situation remain conflicting.
Page Six reported that West was removed from the ceremony, citing an insider who claimed police escorted him and Censori out following her controversial red carpet appearance in a sheer, transparent outfit.
However, TMZ refuted this account, stating that no police were involved. A source close to the Recording Academy told the outlet that West, a nominee for Best Rap Song, attended the Grammys, walked the red carpet, and then left voluntarily. The source emphasized that neither police nor Grammys security intervened.
Swift and West’s tumultuous relationship dates back to the 2009 MTV VMAs when West interrupted Swift’s acceptance speech. Over the years, their dynamic shifted—at one point, they reconciled, only for things to take a turn in 2016 when West’s then-wife, Kim Kardashian, released Snapchat recordings of a private conversation between Swift and West regarding his song “Famous.” Since then, the two have had no public interactions, particularly at high-profile events like the Grammys.
In a 2019 interview with Rolling Stone, Swift reflected on the fallout of their friendship. When asked if she regretted the phone call that became a major controversy, she explained: “The world didn’t understand the context and the events that led up to it. Because nothing ever just happens like that without some lead-up. Some events took place to cause me to be pissed off when he called me a bitch. That was not just a singular event. Basically, I got really sick of the dynamic between he and I. And that wasn’t just based on what happened on that phone call and with that song—it was kind of a chain reaction of things.”
She shared that when they initially reconnected, she felt relief, saying, “All I ever wanted my whole career after that thing happened in 2009 was for him to respect me. When someone doesn’t respect you so loudly and says you literally don’t deserve to be here—I just so badly wanted that respect from him, and I hate that about myself, that I was like, ‘This guy who’s antagonizing me, I just want his approval.’ But that’s where I was.”
Swift recounted the ups and downs of their relationship, leading up to the infamous “Famous” phone call. Afterward, she believed they were on good terms again—until she actually heard the song. “I was like, ‘I’m done with this. If you want to be on bad terms, let’s be on bad terms, but just be real about it.’”
She also pointed out that West had a similar pattern with Drake, describing how he would “get close to you, earn your trust, then detonate you.” Though she admitted she didn’t want to dwell on negativity, she acknowledged, “It’s the same thing.”
